Revisiting 2008 & 2009 Las Flors, La Pèira

It was three years ago I last poured these beauties for a head to head tasting. Time to do it again!

2008 Las Flors, La Pèira
The 08 hasn´t changed much over three years. It still has a deep, plummy fruit nose with a high, almost volatil scent and that distinct aroma of an Islay whisky, or as I jotted down this time, band aid. Very deep, high and interesting. Rosemary, scorched earth and dark chocolate. Very, very good.
The taste is deep, warm and tight with balsamico cooked black cherries, blueberry pie, soya and chocolate wafers. Very long and intense with a inky touch. Has maybe matured ever so slightly but will need - again - 5 more years in the cellar.

2009 Las Flors, La Pèira
And yet again, the 09 is the superior creature. The nose is luscious, deep, creamy and focused with notes of ripe blueberries, raw meat, pipe tobacco and charcoal. A sweet herbal note with some air. Rich yet refined. Very fine.
The taste is concentrated, opulent and multi layered with notes of ripe blueberries, black currants, bonfire smoke, licorice and some meaty notes. Sweet yet stern. The finish goes on and on and on. As with the 08, it has maybe matured somewhat, but it has a long life in front of it. Great wine.
