A Bargain Bordeaux

9 Euro. Could you get a Bordeaux for 9 Euro? That you actually could drink?

I had read good things about this one so I ordered a couple of bottles.

2015 Château Haut-Landon
The cepage is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, but my first impressions of the nose is that of Cabernet Franc - lots of varm grass, some bell pepper and warm tiles. With air scents of red currants, dried plums and fir wood arises from the glass. A bit on the light side but there is a fine balance here.
The taste is medium bodied with a fine structure and notes of red currants, tiles, dry tobacco and some grassy notes. A fine acidity and rounded tannins. A very fine mouth feel. A tad short maybe. True to its origin and a very nice "luncheon claret" to quote Michael Broadbent.

  1. I probably read the same background info, and also ordered a couple of btls some time ago. I fully agree with your notes - fine balance and bdx-character. Highly drinkable, especially for 9 EUR. The only downside - I had hoped for a joyful wine - like the Cuvee Bistrot from Clos Puy Arnaud / T. Valette, but the Haut-Landon did not reach that high on the "I-just-want-another-sip" scale. But very good and drinkable :-) / Regards - Peter (Vintresserad)
