In Search of Brunello di Montalcino´s Soul - Part XXXI

Beside the rivers of Rossese and Vermentino consumed during our vacation in Italy, I managed to get hold of two 2001 Brunello´s, that was enjoyed.
It was a sort of tease for my taste buds for the upcoming tasting of 2001 Brunello Riservas and special cuvees, including the most heralded Brunello of all, the one from Soldera.
Looking forward to that, to say the least...
Since my phone took a bath during our last days in Italy I have no pics of these two bottles, the pics below comes from the net.

2001 Brunello di Montalcino, Villa Poggio Salvi
A deep, semi mature, warm nose with notes of sweet cherries, violets, rosemary bushes, sun warm rocks and a fine floral aroma. Very good. With air notes of raspberry licorice came forward. Not that complex but sweet and fine.
The taste is semi mature, warm and spicy with notes of ripe black cherries, sage, violets and black tea. The tannins still leaves a mark in the medium long finish. Very good. For drinking now and the upcoming 6-8 years.

2001 Brunello di Montalcino, Tenuta Caparzo
This Brunello is deeper and more complex than the above. The nose is deep, powerful yet elegant, with lovely notes of sweet red cherries, cigarette ashes, warm asphalt, rosemary and moist undergrowth. There is some maturity but this feels younger than the Villa Poggio Salvi.
The taste is finely balanced with gorgeous sweet/sour cherries and additional notes of licorice, cigarette ashes, warm tiles and violets. The finish is long, intense and have a fine warmth. The tannins are polished and gives a fine structure. Very, very good. It is definitely drinkable now but I would guess it could shift in one more gear with 4-6 years in the cellar.
